Microsoft has revealed that a Premium cut of its Teams cloudy collaborationware suite will debut in early February, and some features that are currently included in Microsoft 365 will move to the new – more costly – product.

Teams Premium was announced in October 2022, and a preview has operated since December 16.

On Tuesday, the software leviathan revealed, in a note for its partners, that the product is scheduled to become generally available in “early February 2023.”

Teams Premium requires an add-on license over and above a Microsoft 365 subscription.

But as Microsoft’s licensing guide clarifies: “some Teams features will move from Teams licenses to Teams Premium licenses.”

Windows Server 2022 arrived without the pageantry of previous Windows Server releases, but organizations with specific needs will appreciate the refinements to this server OS release.

Microsoft has offered Standard and Datacenter editions of its Windows Server operating systems for several years, which continued with Windows Server 2022. However, the company introduced a new product called the Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Azure edition. As the name implies, this edition ties server workloads more closely to the Microsoft cloud platform and offers unique features to tempt customers who want easier patching and other perks.

Microsoft decided to drop the Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel that catered to organizations interested in emerging server technologies and stick with the Long-Term Servicing Channel, which produces a major feature release around every two years. All Windows Server 2022 editions follow Microsoft’s fixed lifecycle policy and will receive five years of mainstream support followed by five years of extended support. While Microsoft always recommends a clean install of its server OS, Windows Server 2022 supports in-place upgrades from the two previous Windows Server releases.

The macOS 12 Monterey is bringing a host of updates and new features to Macs and MacBooks, and Apple users are getting excited. The release of Office 365 in 2011 saw Microsoft take its productivity software in a new direction. For the first time, the likes of Word, PowerPoint and Excel would now be available as part of a subscription service. The big attraction of this was regular updates, with Office apps previously getting one big update every few years.

This week, at its Ignite 2020 IT Pros conference, the company is talking about mental health.

Since 2018, Microsoft Teams has been the company’s fastest-growing business app ever, long before lockdowns started juicing up remote work and learning numbers. In April, Teams hit 75 million daily active users, and in May Microsoft’s Jeff Teper told VentureBeat Teams “will be even bigger than Windows.” While the pandemic has resulted in impressive growth, Microsoft is realizing it has a responsibility to make sure companies using its platform in an increasing WFH and remote work world can offer mental health tools.
