What is changing and what it means for you

Over the past year, Xensam have been improving how Xupervisor is structured and how it works.

Starting April 11, users of the platform have been promised a clearer, faster interface designed to make it easier to navigate and act on their data. At the same time, Xensam claim to have made improvements behind the scenes to support how the platform continues to evolve.

This is not just a visual refresh

Xensam say the interface has been redesigned across the board – with cleaner layouts, clearer navigation, and a whole new look.

The bigger story is what sits underneath though, with a rebuild of the foundation Xupervisor is built on – so every improvement from here should be faster, more consistent, and built to last.

What you will notice on April 11th

  • Customisable dashboards with advanced widget settings and highlight mode
  • Smarter global search — choose exactly what to search and find it faster
  • Advanced filters and column selector in clean, space-saving popovers
  • Faster page loads and lag-free scrolling through large grids and tables
  • AI Wiki chatbot in the top bar, more central and easier to reach
  • Shareable direct links for detail view pages
  • “Hardware” renamed to “Assets” with a cleaner, more logical structure
  • WCAG Level AA accessibility, light and dark themes, system preference matching

What’s not changing

  • No data is changed or removed
  • No functionality is removed
  • Workflows will continue to work as before

Xensam have announced the launch of their first SaaS Management platform. The Swedish SAM platform secures its first-ever external capital of $40 million for AI product development & expansion in the US and Europe.

Xensam, the Swedish software asset management platform founded in 2016, has announced the onboarding of its first-ever external capital in a $40 million growth funding round. The company aims to use the capital to invest in AI product development and expand operations in the US and Europe.

Helping Xensam leave the title ‘bootstrapped’ behind it is London-based Expedition Growth Capital.

With origins dating back to 2015, brothers Oskar and Gustav Fösker set out to provide software asset managers and IT professionals with greater access to useful SAM data.

While SaaS and its associated ecosystem can be traced back to the turn of the century, the vertical shows no signs of slowing. In fact, according to industry analysts, the global SaaS market size is projected to grow from $273.55 billion in 2023 to $908.21 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 18.7 per cent.

With this in mind and considering Xensam’s growth of ARR by 126 per cent year-on-year since 2017, the company’s first-ever onboarding of external capital makes all the more sense.

Already having garnered the business of Polestar, Northvolt and F500 supply chain giant Jabil, and armed with a fresh $40 million, Xensam now intends to expand well beyond its traditional field of approach, namely that of taking on the ever-lucrative US market.

On the Xensam’s future growth, co-founder and CTO Gustav Fösker shared:

“By pioneering AI from the start, we’ve transformed SAM for hundreds of companies, making it user-friendly and removing manual work.

“With the new funding, we can continue to innovate the platform with more advanced features, including a ChatGPT-inspired chatbot that will enhance its accessibility and user experience."

On the investment, Expedition Growth Capital’s Oliver Thomas added:

There are a plethora of SAM tools on the market. Some use third party inventory sources, such as SCCM, whilst others rely on the fidelity of their own data collection technology to deliver the SAM experience. In this article, I will provide an insight into the 5 best “Must Haves” for an inventory/discovery tool.

Every organisation assessing Software Asset Management software will have individual needs and drivers. In some cases, SAM software underpinned by agentless discovery is a requirement. However, in almost all cases, the benefits of an agent-based SAM solution far outweigh the short-term convenience of agentless SAM software.

The difference between a discovery tool and an inventory tool is that a discovery tool is usually a network scanner that will pick up all network devices at moment of scan, known or unknown, such as routers, switches and printers. It also provides patchy overview of software installations. An inventory tool is usually agent based and will provide granular detail of software installed and used on any given device.

So, here are my top 5 functions to look for in an inventory/discovery tool:

  • The tool should pick up granular detail of hardware & software across multiple platforms including .exe files, registry entries, serial numbers etc.
  • The SAM tool should be picking up usage metrics. And for bonus points, should also pick up precise “Active Usage” statistics across all technologies.
  • Will it connect to 3rd party data sources such as Vcenter, M365, Adobe and Salesforce.
  • The tool will look at web browser applications. And for extra marks, will do this directly via the agent and will not need to require awkward browser extensions to work.
  • The agent will report in without the requirement of a VPN. Usually cloud-based solution feature, and in the Covid era, home workers do not always connect to the network.

Of course, SAM tools that rely upon data sources such as SCCM are severely restricted in the functionality they can provide and the accuracy of data. As a result, my opinion is that it is best to invest in a SAM solution that relies on the data that it captures itself. If an agent-based SAM solution offers simplicity and functionality, this is the best option for most organisations.

Not every organisation is the same and not every SAM tool is the same. It is therefore imperative that each organisation assesses its needs independently.
