Microsoft unlocks Premium Teams features for Enterprise users at no extra cost

At a time where more features usually coincides with a price rise, Microsoft are adding webinars, town halls, and Places tools without requiring a Premium licence.

Microsoft is continuing its push to make Teams more attractive for enterprise customers, and the company has now confirmed a major licensing change that unlocks several premium-style features for more users.

After adding Brand Impersonation Protection for voice calls, Microsoft is rolling out broader updates to Teams licensing that significantly expand access to modern collaboration tools.

According to the Microsoft Teams Blog, Microsoft is updating its licensing model so that Teams Enterprise customers can use advanced features that previously required a Teams Premium subscription.

Teams Enterprise gets bigger events and webinars

Under the new licensing structure, Teams Enterprise users will gain access to full town hall and webinar capabilities. This means organisations can host interactive events with up to 3,000 attendees, using the same advanced controls that were once locked behind higher-tier licenses.

In addition, Teams Enterprise will support view-only streaming for up to 10,000 attendees. Microsoft will also offer optional attendee pack add-ons for companies that need to reach even larger audiences.

Microsoft is also expanding its AI-driven Places experience. The Places Finder and Places Explorer tools will become available to all users who already have access to Teams and Outlook, instead of remaining limited to select licenses.

The company is also broadening what it calls “end-user workplace coordination features” across multiple Microsoft 365 and Teams-related plans, further reducing the gap between standard and premium experiences.

These licensing updates are part of a wider Microsoft change scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2026. The goal is to improve communication and collaboration without forcing organisations to upgrade licenses for core event features.

That said, Teams Premium will still be required for certain advanced meeting protection options and more sophisticated AI-powered capabilities.

It is also worth noting that Microsoft 365 experienced a recent outage, raising fresh questions about service reliability. In other related news, Microsoft Planner is undergoing a redesign that could remove some important features, which has already sparked concern among users.
